Farmington Public Schools has been awarded a substantial $4,217,152.31 from the Arkansas Division of Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation to support the construction of a new junior high school building. This significant investment follows the state's recognition of Farmington as one of the fastest-growing school districts in Arkansas.
Expanding facilities have become increasingly important as student enrollment continues to rise across the district. The state’s allocation affirms the pressing demand for more classroom space to accommodate the district's growing student body. It supports Farmington’s long-term commitment to providing high-quality education in safe, modern environments.
To retain this funding, the district must begin construction on the new junior high building by November 2026. If construction has not commenced by that deadline, the state funding will be forfeited. District leaders are working to ensure the project remains on schedule and aligned with the funding requirements.
As part of this critical planning phase, Farmington Public Schools is seeking input from the community to determine what level of financial support residents would be willing to consider for this project. A community survey is now available and attached to this announcement. The feedback collected will play a vital role in shaping a funding proposal that reflects the district's needs and the values of the Farmington community.
Superintendent Jon Laffoon emphasized the importance of public engagement in this process:
“We’re excited about the opportunity this funding provides, but even more so about the chance to work with our community to ensure our next steps reflect their priorities. Growth is a challenge we welcome—and with our community’s support, we’re confident we can meet it head-on.”
Community members are encouraged to complete the survey and share their thoughts as Farmington Public Schools moves forward in planning for the future of its students.
