FARMINGTON, Ark. — The Arkansas Rural Education Association (AREA) has announced that Farmington Schools Superintendent Jon Laffoon has been elected as the 2024-25 AREA North Superintendent of the Year.
“I am humbled to have been nominated by my peers in Northwest Arkansas and selected from superintendents across the state,” Laffoon said. “This opportunity to serve our district in Farmington and rural districts across the state is a privilege, and I am grateful for the trust my colleagues have placed in me.”
Laffoon extended his gratitude to the Farmington School Board, the district’s administrative team, and the students and staff for their continued dedication and support. “Your unwavering support and commitment to positively impact our students in Farmington made this opportunity possible. It is an honor to represent the Arkansas Rural Education Association. Our commitment to advocate for rural schools, rural students, and to be elected to serve this important role at the state level for the last six years has been rewarding,” he added.
Having served as AREA President for the past three years, Laffoon will transition into the role of Past President effective this July. He emphasized the importance of strong leadership and collaboration as essential drivers of success for students across Arkansas.
AREA Director Dennis Copeland praised Laffoon’s service, calling him “A great asset to our organization and most deserving of this award. Jon has contributed greatly to supporting our organization and rural schools throughout the state during my time with the organization."
“We look forward to continuing to work with Jon in his next capacity as Past President,” Copeland said. Together, we will build on our shared vision, the growth of our organization, and the scholarships we provide to ensure our rural students have the opportunity to thrive.”
