Farmington School District’s new electric school buses have officially arrived — and are already transporting students across the district.
Earlier this year, Farmington was awarded $1.22 million through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean School Bus Program to purchase six electric buses. Now, those buses are here, marking a milestone in the district’s efforts to provide safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly transportation.
Superintendent Jon Laffoon said the addition of electric buses is a significant step forward for Farmington.
“We are proud to see these buses in service for our students. This investment is not just about transportation — it’s about creating a healthier environment for our children and community. Combined with our solar arrays and energy services contract, these clean buses expand Farmington’s leadership in moving toward a better future and being more cost-effective,” Laffoon said.
The EPA’s Clean School Bus Program, created under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, provides $5 billion nationwide to replace school buses with cleaner alternatives. Farmington was one of two Arkansas districts that received funds and put the buses on the road, along with Little Rock School District.
Electric buses offer zero tailpipe emissions, helping improve air quality and reduce fuel costs while providing a quieter, smoother ride for students. With the new buses now in service, Farmington families can look forward to cleaner air, healthier rides, and continued innovation in student transportation.
