The Farmington School Board approved the hiring of Stephen Sprick as the next Head Baseball Coach for the Farmington Cardinals during its special board meeting Thursday night.
Sprick brings an impressive track record of success to Farmington, including 194 career victories in 11 seasons as a head coach, four conference championships, three district tournament championships, four Coach of the Year honors, and the development of 16 student-athletes who advanced to collegiate baseball.
For Sprick, the opportunity represents a return to familiar ground. He began his educational and coaching journey in Farmington as a student teacher during the spring of 2013 before continuing his career at Dierks and, most recently, at Horatio.
While serving as an assistant coach under legendary Arkansas high school baseball coach Lance Spigner at Horatio, Sprick helped guide the Lions to a state runner-up finish in 2018 and a state semifinal appearance in 2019. He took over as head coach in 2020 and led Horatio to a conference championship and three top-eight state finishes.
Prior to his tenure at Horatio, Sprick built a successful program at Dierks, winning three conference championships, one regional championship, and leading the Outlaws to three state quarterfinal appearances and a state semifinal berth. He also served as an AAA West All-Star Coach.
A 2003 graduate of West Fork High School, Sprick was a four-time All-Conference selection, two-time All-State player, and member of the AAA West All-Star Team. He continued his playing career at Carl Albert State College before entering the coaching profession.
Farmington Athletic Director Beau Thompson said Sprick's passion for the position and understanding of the Cardinals' tradition made him the ideal choice.
“We are beyond excited to welcome Coach Sprick and his family to Farmington,” Thompson said. “He is a proven winner, and there was no doubt he wanted to be a Cardinal the most. He understands our rich tradition and expectations, and will be a great addition to our school and community.”
Sprick inherits one of Northwest Arkansas' premier baseball programs and brings a reputation for developing student-athletes, building competitive teams, and fostering a culture of excellence.
Farmington Schools welcomes Coach Sprick and his family to the Cardinal community and looks forward to Cardinal Baseball's future under his leadership.
There will be a meet and greet with Coach Sprick and his family at the Farmington Softball/Baseball Indoor facility on Wednesday, June 17th, at 5:30 PM. We encourage all Farmington baseball players, parents, and supporters to come out! Tryout information for next year’s teams will also be available then.
