Farmington Public Schools is taking another important step to strengthen student and staff safety while simplifying communication for families. Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, the district will consolidate classroom, athletic, extracurricular, and school communications into a single platform.
The Farmington School Board approved a three-year, $37,500 agreement with Apptegy during its June 29 meeting. The district will use Apptegy’s “Connect” feature for safe, monitored, two-way communication among families, students and school employees.
“Student and staff safety remains our top priority,” Superintendent Jon Laffoon said. “Using one district-approved and monitored platform provides stronger safeguards for students and staff while making communication easier and more consistent for our families.”
Creating one safe and consistent communication platform has been a shared goal of the district’s Student Services and Technology departments, according to Jarod Morrison, Director of Student Support Services. Connect will provide many of the same core communication features currently available to staff through ClassDojo, Remind, SportsYou, and similar apps. Instead of managing several different applications, families will have one place for district, campus, classroom, athletic and activity information.
The platform also includes important safety protections. Communications are visible to authorized administrators and include moderation and audit capabilities not available in personal messages or certain third-party applications.
"These safeguards are crucial for the protection of both our students and staff,” Morrison stated. “Using a single monitored platform enhances appropriate communication practices, promotes consistency across the district, and makes it easier for families to stay connected. This is a significant step forward in ensuring student safety.”
Apptegy reports that more than 5,200 school districts use its communication platform. Farmington Public Schools will provide families with additional information and instructions before the system is fully launched. District officials encourage parents and guardians to ensure that their email addresses and phone numbers are current during student registration so they receive communications through this new platform.
