Coach Johnson and his girls are getting used to being in Hot Springs in March. They culminated their record-breaking season with a state finals victory over Nashville. It was their fourth straight trip to the finals. Giving them two out of the last four state titles. The ladies finished with a record of 36-1, with their only loss coming to Blue Valley North who were the 6A state champions in Kansas. They were the 1 4A undefeated conference and conference tournament champs for the 2nd year in a row. They were the 4A North Regional Tournament champs and Mountain Home Christmas Tournament champs the last two seasons as well. They have won 34 consecutive conference games and their final record of 36-1 was the best record of any girls team in the state regardless of classification this season.
The girls and Coach Johnson earned many individual honors this season. Kaycee McCumber and Hannah Moss were both selected 1 4A All-Conference. J'Myra London was named to the 1 4A All-Defensive Team as well as being all-conference. Marin Adams was 1 4A All-Conference, All-State Tournament, Prep Hoops Super Sophomore Team, and selected one of the top 12 bench players in the nation by Scorebook Live. Zoey Bershers was 1 4A All-Conference, All-State Honorable Mention, and Prep Hoops Super Sophomore Team. Returning third year junior point guard Reece Shirey was named 1 4A All-Conference, All-State, and All-State Tournament. Coach Johnson was also named the Scorebook Live State Girls Basketball Coach of the Year.
Senior Jenna Lawrence capped off her great high school career with a AAAA State Tournament MVP Award. The University of Arkansas Razorback signee also earned 1 4A Conference Player of the Year, All-State, All-State Tournament, Arkansas Democrat Gazette Prep Hoops 1st Team and Scorebook Live All-Arkansas 1st Team. Jenna was also a McDonald's All-American Nominee as well as an Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year finalist. She finished with over 2000 points and 1000 rebounds for her career.
Things are looking well for the Lady Cardinals in the future. They return four starters and played multiple sophomores during their run to a state title this season. Their Jr High team won both the NWRV 5A/6A regular season and conference tournament titles. From the 7th grade to the varsity level the Lady Cardinals amassed a staggering overall record of 98-3 this season.
