Farmington Athletics is proud to announce that the 2000 Farmington Lady Cardinals Softball State Championship Team will be recognized at this year’s Farmington Hall of Honor Banquet, along with the 2005 State Championship Team.
The 2000 Lady Cardinals made history by capturing the first softball state championship in Farmington High School history, finishing an incredible season with a 25-2 record.
Led by Coach Randy Osnes, a member of this year’s Hall of Honor induction class, the Lady Cardinals were dominant in the circle and outstanding defensively throughout their championship run. But what truly separated this group was its tremendous team chemistry.
With a senior-laden class providing outstanding leadership, the Lady Cardinals represented Farmington High School and the Farmington community with pride. Their hard work, determination, and commitment to one another not only resulted in a state championship but also helped establish the standard for generations of Lady Cardinals who followed.
More than 25 years later, the 2000 team holds a special place in Farmington history as the group that brought home the school’s first softball state championship and helped lay the foundation for the championship tradition Farmington Softball continues to enjoy today.
This year’s Hall of Honor Banquet will provide a special opportunity to celebrate two of Coach Osnes’ state championship teams, as both the 2000 and 2005 Lady Cardinal State Champions will be recognized during the evening.
We encourage all players, coaches, managers, families, and others associated with the 2000 championship team to join us as we recognize this historic group alongside the 2005 State Champions.
The banquet will be held Wednesday at 6:00 PM at Cardinal Arena.

Farmington Hall of Honor Spotlight: Carol Bundsgaard
Farmington Public Schools is proud to announce longtime educator Carol Bundsgaard as a member of the 2026 Farmington Hall of Honor Induction Class. Bundsgaard will be formally recognized during the Hall of Honor Induction Banquet on Wednesday, September 23, at 6:00 p.m. at Cardinal Arena.
While many Hall of Honor inductees made their mark on the court or playing field, Bundsgaard’s impact came in the classroom, where she spent 20 years investing in Farmington students and helping tell the story of Farmington High School. Her and her husband, Rich, have also been devoted fans of Farmington Athletics, traveling all over the state to watch Cardinal teams play.
Bundsgaard began her career at Farmington in August 2000 and remained a Cardinal until her retirement in May 2020. During those two decades, she influenced countless students while also serving as a mentor and leader among her fellow educators.
One of Bundsgaard’s most visible contributions was her work with the Farmington High School yearbook program. She coordinated the publishing of 15 FHS yearbooks from 2006 through 2020, preserving the memories, accomplishments and stories of an entire generation of Cardinals.
Her influence extended well beyond her own classroom. Bundsgaard supervised student-teachers, served as a mentor to beginning teachers in the district and maintained a University of Arkansas partner classroom. Among the young educators she mentored was Clint Scrivner, continuing her impact on Farmington students through the teachers she helped develop.
In 2016, Bundsgaard received special recognition for the difference she made in the lives of her students when she was selected as the Barnes & Noble Favorite Teacher of the Year for the Fayetteville store.
As Farmington High School entered a new era with the opening of the new FHS in 2017, Bundsgaard was there to help students take advantage of new opportunities. She worked alongside students as the school opened its new broadcast studio, helping them develop skills and experiences in a changing world of communications and media.
For Bundsgaard, however, the greatest accomplishment of her career was much simpler — the relationships. She greatly enjoyed her years at Farmington High School, the colleagues she worked alongside and, most importantly, the students she had the opportunity to teach.
After retiring in 2020, Bundsgaard has enjoyed spending time with family and friends and traveling. And when she is back home, one thing hasn’t changed — you can still find her cheering on the Cardinals.
From preserving 15 years of Farmington history through the yearbook, to mentoring future educators, developing new opportunities for students and dedicating two decades to FHS, Carol Bundsgaard represents the service, relationships and commitment to students that the Farmington Hall of Honor was created to celebrate.

Farmington Hall of Honor Spotlight: Floyd O. Shelley
FARMINGTON, Ark. — Farmington Public Schools and Farmington Athletics are proud to announce Floyd O. Shelley as a member of the 2026 Farmington Hall of Honor Induction Class. Shelley will be formally recognized during the Hall of Honor Induction Banquet on Wednesday, September 23, at 6:00 p.m. at Cardinal Arena.
Shelley’s story as a Cardinal began in the spring of 1970, when his family moved to Farmington. For Shelley, the move to a small community would have a lasting impact on his life. He began playing football for Farmington in the eighth grade, and his teams went undefeated over the next two seasons, setting the stage for an outstanding high school career.
As a sophomore in 1973, Shelley became part of one of the most memorable teams in Farmington football history. The Cardinals completed a perfect 12-0 season and captured the Class B State Championship. Shelley remembers that championship team as a “well-oiled machine,” with players working together toward a common goal.
The success continued during his junior season in 1974. Farmington again established itself as a conference powerhouse, winning the Ozark Conference Championship and advancing to the state playoffs. Shelley earned All-Conference honors that season. He was also part of Farmington’s basketball program, which captured a district championship that year.
As a senior in 1975, Shelley helped lead the Cardinals to another Ozark Conference Championship and a run through the state playoffs. Individually, he capped his Farmington football career by earning All-Conference and All-State honors and being named the Conference Most Valuable Player.
His accomplishments earned him the opportunity to represent Farmington on one of the state’s biggest stages. In the summer of 1976, Shelley was selected to participate in the East-West All-Star Football Game at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
Playing tight end and serving as a field-goal kicker, Shelley accounted for six points — one field goal and three extra points — as the West defeated an East squad led by Houston Nutt.
Although football was his passion, Shelley was a multi-sport Cardinal. He also competed in basketball and track, earning recognition in several events during his time at Farmington.
For Shelley, however, his Hall of Honor career cannot be measured simply by championships, individual awards or statistics. He credits his teammates and the lessons he learned through athletics with shaping the person he became.
Shelley spent 28 years working in and managing an auto glass business, becoming a part owner during his final seven years there. In 2008, he began another chapter of service to the community when he went to work for the City of Farmington. He spent 17 years with the city before retiring in 2025 as Public Works Manager.
Today, Floyd and his wife, Tammie, have been married for 46 years. They have two adult children, Brooke Spradlin and her husband Steven, and Brian Shelley, along with seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
From an undefeated junior high football player to a State Champion, Conference MVP, All-State selection and East-West All-Star, and later a longtime servant of the Farmington community, Floyd O. Shelley represents the history, tradition and community spirit the Farmington Hall of Honor was created to celebrate.
