Farmington News

In May of this year, Andrea Ward, former instructional facilitator at Farmington Middle School, applied for the Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant on behalf of FMS. The school was eligible for up to $70,000 to fund products, programs, and services to directly enhance literacy instruction. After a lengthy application process, the grant was fully funded! This is a two year grant that will directly benefit FMS students in the following areas:

  • Chromebooks/Technology: With the funds allotted or new technology, FMS will now have enough technology for one-to-one technology
  • Literacy Curriculum: Funds will allow for FMS to adopt a new literacy curriculum for grades 4-6.
  • Professional Development: In addition to the new literacy curriculum, FMS will be able to provide professional development to support literacy curriculum implementation and Phonics First training.
  • English Language Learners: Funds will be allotted to train teachers and implement an after school program that will directly benefit English Language Learners at FMS.
This grant will provide not only the resources our teachers need, but also provide an opportunity for all our students to continue to grow. Congratulations to Mrs. Ward and the rest of the FMS faculty on this fantastic recognition!
